Alexander Belnavis
Alexander is a first year doctoral student in the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences program at Arizona State University. He previously graduated from Washington State University(Go Cougs!) in 2020, obtaining his Bachelor’s in Neuroscience. He then went on to graduate from Arizona State University(Fork’s Up!) in 2022, obtaining his Master’s in Auditory and Language Neuroscience. For his master's project in Dr. Peterson's Gait & Balance Disorders Lab, he investigated and established multiple correlations between speech and gait variables in individuals diagnosed with PD. His previous research indicated and implicated a need for the use of AI algorithms and in depth analysis of possible variables for prognosis of PD. Following this, he also assisted in data collection for a reactive step training program in individuals diagnosed with PD.After joining the Pathomechanics and Neuroimaging laboratory, he became involved in the development of a machine-based motor reserve index to efficiently and effectively analyze structural changes reflective of cognitive and motor deficits. While assisting in this study, Mr. Belnavis has masked ventral anterior and posterior subcortical substantia nigra. While in PMNI, his primary research goal is to implement multimodality methods, AI based algorithms, neurodiagnostic(MRI) markers, and metabolic markers to efficiently and effectively predict possible onset of neurodegenerative disorders, specifically Parkinson Disease. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend Briana, going to the movies, playing pickup basketball, going to the gym, playing video games, and reading comic books(Marvel over DC because of Spiderman, but he loves Batman)
